Dr. Kai-hung Fung is a medical doctor & specialist in diagnostic radiology. He is also a self-taught new media artist. He started his art career in 2003 when he discovered new color image rendering techniques that could enhance the aesthetic value of 3D computed tomography (CT) images. This “rainbow technique” was published in LEONARDO in 2006. He was the first place winner in the “Science & Engineering Visualization Challenge 2007” organized by “Science” journal and National Science Foundation, U.S.A.

Using scientific data acquired from state –of-art multidetector computed tomography (CT)scanners, the artist employs 3D-CT as a creative medium to demonstrate the beauty of human anatomy. Utilizing this new technology, the artist hopes to achieve a new meeting of art and science, extending radiology into the realm of visual art.
